Curbside delivery or installation: which is right for you?

Southeast Closet Company · · 4 min read

The short answer

Delivery (curbside) ships your closet flat-packed to the curb anywhere in the lower 48 states and DC, for you to carry in and put together. Delivery + Installation, near our Ringgold, GA workshop, is our own crew building it and fixing it to your wall. Both are included in the price.

  • Every order is flat-packed, with the fiddly work already done in our shop.
  • Curbside goes anywhere in the lower 48 states and DC, by freight, lowered to the curb with a liftgate.
  • Installation is our own crew, near the shop only: they carry it in, build it, screw it to the studs, level it and take the packaging away.
  • Both are included: you choose one at checkout and nothing is added for it.

What comes, either way

Every order is made to order and flat-packed. We cut, band and drill every part in our shop, and do the fiddly work before it’s boxed: the drawer slides are fitted, the drawer fronts are on, every door hinge is mounted, every connector is set and every rod is cut to length. The cabinets, their drawer boxes and their shelves go together where they’ll stand.

At checkout you choose how it gets to you. There’s no pickup from the workshop.

Delivery (curbside)

Your order ships on a pallet by freight carrier to anywhere in the lower 48 states and Washington, DC. The driver lowers it to the curb or the end of the driveway with a liftgate; carrying it in and putting it together is up to you. For Alaska, Hawaii and the U.S. territories, call us.

  • An adult needs to be there to check the boxes and sign for them.
  • The boxes are heavy and some are long, about as long as the cabinets are tall (84″ or 92-5/8″). Have a second person, or more, to carry them in, and check the turns in your hallway and stairs before the day.
  • Before you sign, count the boxes and look over every one. Write any damage on the carrier’s receipt, take photos, and call us. We file the claim and repair or replace what was damaged.

Putting it together yourself

There’s a step-by-step assembly guide for reach-in modules, one for wardrobe cabinets, and one for putting a closet of several cabinets on the wall, with drawings worked out from the same plans the shop builds from. You need a drill with a clutch, a stud finder, a level and a helper; the connector bit is in our hardware bag.

The one rule. Screw every cabinet to the wall studs before you load it or open a drawer. A tall cabinet full of clothes can tip.

Our warranty still covers the materials and hardware on a closet you assemble yourself, from the day it’s delivered. The assembly and installation are yours, and so is any damage or injury that comes from them; our terms set that out.

Delivery + Installation

We install within 40 miles of our Ringgold, GA workshop, which covers Chattanooga, Dalton, Cleveland and North Georgia. The checkout offers Delivery + Installation only to an address inside that area.

Every town we install in is on our White-Glove Installation page. Our own crew, not a subcontractor, brings your order on our truck, carries every piece in, puts every cabinet together where it stands, screws it to the studs, levels it, hangs the rods, tries every door and drawer, and takes the packaging away.

Before we arrive, clear the closet: take out the old shelving, rods and brackets, and anything on the floor. We install, but we don’t remove an existing closet or haul it away. Have an adult home for the whole visit, and tell us ahead of time about anything unusual in the wall, like plaster, masonry, or wiring and pipes where the cabinets will go.

How long each takes

Curbside orders usually ship in about 3–4 weeks, and installation orders are usually installed in about 3–4 weeks.

We email you when a curbside order ships. For an installation, we contact you when your order is nearly ready to set a day that works for you. These times are estimates, not promises.

How to choose

Choose curbside if you’re comfortable with a drill, have a helper and can carry long boxes in, or if you live outside our install area.

Choose installation if you’re near the shop and would rather have it built, anchored and leveled for you, with the packaging gone when the crew leaves.

Both are included in the price, so the choice is only about what suits you. Type your address in the cart to see which reach you. The full details are in our shipping, delivery and installation policy.
